Beyond the white coat
It's been two(2) years of practice as a Medical Doctor and the journey has come in different shades with every experience stretching me beyond the previous limit and pushing toward something better.
Medical practice has been a blessing, not that it comes with a lot of benefits but because I get to serve selflessly and see the smile of a patient that gets better.
As a reflect today, I wonder if, asides family members and close associates, does the world really see beyond the white coat?
Pardon me if I'm wrong, however it seems to me that the world sees a help, a hero/heroine, a doctor, "the favoured specie", just someone paid to take care of health issues and that person has to be available when needed no matter the timing or circumstance but is that all about us?
Do you remember doctors are humans?
Do you recognize that they have a life outside work with responsibilities just like you?
Do you know the traumas?
Do you see the scars?
Do you see us beyond the white coats?
Many are the untold stories of doctors and truth is no matter how hard you try to fathom it, you can at best try.
So next time you see a doctor, remember that's a human like you that needs to be understood and appreciated.
A smile makes a world of difference.

This hit really hard!!! You've said it all.
ReplyDeleteFor many years now, I have been around doctors and relating with them in one way or the other and I can tell how busy you people can be and how demanding the work you people do is, not to mention the payment not being tantamount to the work done. It takes a lot of strength, stability, focus and determination to remain effective in such a field. The Lord see you all through.

You are admired by many but seeing beyond the coats is quite difficult with people in pain, sickness and more... and sometimes we are not sure if thank you really matters to "some" Doctors cos the stress wears them off so much to allow them respond to it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminder. Know this always!
