Love Personified

Love, may be one word that may have been the most used in time with almost everyone if not all having a definition to it and how it should be expressed. Existing in its different dimensions the reflection of a ‘Being’ broken down in fragments so humans so frail can understand and relate to it.

We learnt the word but very few may actually know its origin. It was borrowed yet no one seems to remember the original owner. A rare gem, passed through time from one person to another, generation after generation, its lustre and frame has been destroyed such that all that is remaining of it in the world are broken fragments that cannot fit piece to another to make a meaning.

You ask the question what is love? And you hear a thousand responses, everyone speaking from the experience of the fragment received. In a bid to comfort one self, we came up with the idea; “Do we really have to go lengths to get to the Origin? Besides, we’ve heard that what it truly is; is hard work, it requires a whole lot. Why burden ourselves when time has made it easier? If the Originator had an issue with its change and use through time, He should have done something about it; maybe take a drastic action, say take it out of existence. We are the ones using it, so we make the decision”. Not only was it broken, we attempt to alter it but true to its nature, divinity cannot be altered by flesh.

The Origin, contrary to their thought however, has been deeply hurt and had set out a plan from the beginning of time to make things right.

Whilst they thought He didn’t care or wouldn’t visit, He came in the form of the little original fragments but they could not recognize Him, they threw Him out. He was dejected and rejected times losing count but He remained in their midst trying to teach them (John 1:1-11). They thought He was far beyond reach but there He was at their doorways and in the streets. Though having power to destroy them for tarnishing His image, He restrains Himself because love is more than a word or commodity to Him, it is more than worship or faithfulness, more than gifts and food, more than sacrifice and obedience; Love is who He is.

When I consider the heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained and established, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of [earthborn] man that You care for him? Yet You have made him but a little lower than God [or heavenly beings], and You have crowned him with glory and honor.

Psalm 8:3-5 (AMP)

He understands where it all began, a stranger had sold a lie to His creation and they have bought it. His nature compels Him to rescue them for He cannot bear to see them destroyed. For there is a law in place, soon to catch up with them as it has thousands before them; it says; “The soul that sinneth shall die... (Ezek. 18:20 KJV)”.

So He took upon Himself flesh (John 1:14) and came to live among them as they were that He would reintroduce Himself and teach them of His nature.

For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life. For God did not send the Son into the world in order to judge (to reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on) the world, but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him.

John 3:16-17 (AMP)

When He did come, He did not receive a warm welcome, the world had so changed that all it wanted was His hand not His heart and when those at the helm of affairs saw that He had come to make an everlasting change they foolishly opted to end His life not knowing that it was the wisdom of God in redemption to subject Him to death that He may taste death for all mankind (Heb. 2:9-18).

Death itself was swallowed up in life and He resurrected, days later He ascended and sent us the promised Holy Spirit (the Governor over the church) to teach and guide us into all truth and to make us effective witnesses of that which we have seen, heard and handled as we partner with Him, until He returns to take us home where we will forever dwell in the warmth of His love.

We are that generation of witnesses who have been handed down the baton from heroes past to reintroduce LOVE (Jesus) to our failing world. We must be separate, we must be as He is, we must become what we preach, we must be Love personified, the embodiment of the Christ.

The question is, what are you doing with your salvation?
